In recent years, the voices of victims or ‘survivors’ of childhood sexual abuse have been heard far more frequently than at any point in the past. However, in comparison, there have been very few public disclosures of child sexual abuse and exploitation in relation to sports settings. If the sports community is to be properly informed and educated about the issue of sexual violence, abuse and exploitation, thus better equipped to prevent it, the telling of such stories is vital.
Following fifteen years experience of research on this topic, I am currently conducting confidential research interviews with individuals affected by this issue. Survivors Manchester is endorsing and supporting this research and they have created a page with further details here.
